Dogs Making a Difference: Magic and Avinn

By | Diabetes Alert, Service Dog Stories

Avinn gave us a pretty good scare last night!

He was watching his Ipad, and Magic was losing his mind. Checked A, he’s 81 dexcom reads 120. Figured Magic was alerting because he’s below 100. Magic has been treated but still losing his mind…literally losing his mind, he won’t stop. Check Avinn again, not sure how long it had been, because I was waiting for his snack he just ate to “kick in”….FORTY ONE!!! Dexcom is reading 79. I start cramming sugar in A (over-carbing because that’s what you do when your child’s bs is 41) and check again. Literally minutes, and he is now THIRTY ONE, with 1u of insulin in his body.

Poor Avinn and poor Magic, trying to calm both of them down, and not lose it myself..

I don’t know what would have happened if it weren’t for Magic, I shudder thinking about it. Tim kept saying what do people do without these tools, what did we do? Honestly, I don’t know….but I don’t want to go back there.

Lesson for the day: NEVER underestimate the power of a Papillion !!
