Hi, this is our daughter, Mallory EvansBrown. Mallory is 9 years old and the youngest of five brothers and sisters. At 18 months, Mallory was diagnosed with athetoid cerebral palsy. This rare condition affects Mallory’s muscle strength, balance and co-ordination. Mallory is able to do many things on her own, but falls frequently throughout her day. Recently two of these falls led to her breaking her arm. One of which required surgery and five days in the hospital. Mallory can walk short distances but her legs give out constantly, which limits Mallory’s ability to live like a normal 9 year old.
Mallory is a very smart, energetic, funny and inspiring little girl. She is in regular classes and finishing fourth grade. She has limitless energy and a very positive attitude. Mallory never gives up and is determined to do things just like other kids. Because of her weak muscles and lack of balance Mallory depends on a walker to get around any distances. Her walker is very limiting, bulky and difficult to maneuver outside. In class and home she tries to walk independently but her muscles collapse and she falls regularly. Mallory also has growth hormone issues and takes a pill and receives a shot every morning to help with her hormone levels and growth.
We are seeking a service dog through 4 Paws for Ability to help Mallory become more independent and decrease her falls. Mallory wants to get rid of her walker for many reasons. Her biggest reason is that ‘people look at me funny and feel sorry for me’. Mallory wants people to treat her same and hopes a service dog will help people want to interact with her. She stated just this morning that maybe she will get invited places with her friends if she has a service dog and not her walker.
4 Paws for Ability is the organization we choose to provide a service dog for Mallory. It can cost between $40,000-$60,000 to raise a trained service dog. We are committed to raising $17,000 for 4 Paws to provide Mallory a service dog for mobility. We are asking for any donation possible to help Mallory reach her goal. Donations can be made online to www.4pawsforability.org/donate-now. Please include Mallory’s name in the information section.
