Isabella Brook

Isabella is a energetic 6 year old little girl who has Down Syndrome, Autism and is visually impaired. Isabella was adopted from an orphanage in Ukraine at 11 months old where she laid in a crib every day, with no comfort, no toys, little human interaction. She was given up in her country because having a child with Down Syndrome is frowned upon socially. She has been a huge blessing to our family and brought so much love and joy to our home! We can’t imagine our lives without her in it.
With her Autism, it has brought many challenges to her daily living and activities that we want to help her by getting her a service dog. She has managed to “stealthily” escape our home causing us to call 911 to help us find her. We live in Florida and are surrounded by 3 bodies of water within steps of our home, which terrifies us! She is always looking to escape in parking lots, stores, restaurants, everywhere we go! She is also overwhelmed at times in public places, causing her to meltdown, plops down on the ground and refuses to move. I have had to pull her out of kindergarten this school year even though she was number 2 in academics among typical peers because her anxiety in the classroom was affecting everyone! She is also very limited in speech which brings many challenges as well, and being visually impaired affects her ambulation and being self independent too.

I know Isabella has so much potential and can do more than what she is being limited to right now because of anxiety and challenges she faces. A service dog will be trained to help her in times of anxiety, meltdowns, and help with elopements as well. It will be trained to Track her if God forbid she does escape from us, and will also allow us to “tether” her to the dog which will help to keep her from running off also. It will become her buddy, and partner and be able to recognize when she is in need of assistance. It would bring us incredible peace of mind knowing we have a service dog to assist her when we may not always be there and when she needs it. Being a special needs parent and being “Alert” all the time can give us enormous stress levels. We want to give her all the tools she needs to live a happy independent life and be the best God has designed her to be!

It costs at least $46,000 to specially train a dog for Isabella. Families cover only a portion of that cost.  We are fundraising to help cover the fee required to provide her with a life-changing service dog. We hope you would consider helping Isabella receive her service dog by helping her meet her financial goal. Donations in support of Isabella should be made directly to 4 Paws for Ability – Please make sure you put Isabella Brook on your donation to 4 Paws so it will go directly to her fund. Thank you for reading her story and thank you for considering to help her!
