I am writing this letter with much excitement for what God is doing in our lives and the lives of others! He is so faithful and powerful; I am in awe of Him. As part of the Harvest Season I have completed an application for a service dog (Autism Assistance Dog) through an organization called 4 Paws for Ability located in Xenia, Ohio. This application has been filed on behalf of my son Elian Lopez. Elian is a 7 year old boy diagnosed with a primary disability of autism and a secondary disability of speech language impairment. Elian is a kind and loving young boy who enjoys a variety of activities. Elian is most comfortable with his family and he will definitely benefit form a service dog. Our family is extremely involved in Elian’s life, education, and care. We do have the ability to care for a dog, and will be provide a good home and environment as well. Elian has been exposed to therapy dogs at his school and has been noticed that he demonstrates a great interest and loving care for dogs.
The purpose of this letter is to share that Elian desires to own a dog and the benefit of having a service dog that can assist him directly as he grows up on the spectrum. As a single mother of two boys, and the cost of the dog, it is hard for me to make this wish happen by myself, so we are fundraising to help cover the fee for service to obtain a service dog task trained to mitigate the impacts of Elian’s disability.
There are five stages before a dog can be place in our home. All five stages are available for review at the organization website (https://4pawsforability.org/the-process/). The first two stages of the process has been successfully completed. The third stage will allow us to move forward in getting the dog for Elian. As of July 1, 2016 the fee for service is $17,000. The family is responsible to pay/raise the total amount stated in the contract to move to the 4th Stage.
It costs at least $46,000 to specially train a dog for Elian. Families cover only a portion of that cost. We are fundraising to help cover the fee required to provide him with a life-changing service dog. We hope you would consider helping Elian receive his service dog by helping him meet his financial goal. Donations in support of Elian should be made directly to 4 Paws for Ability – Please make sure you put Elian Lopez on your donation to 4 Paws so it will go directly to his fund. Donations can be made in the following ways:
