Dreamer James Rasmussen

Meet James Rasmussen. James is a nine-year-old with an unforgettable happiness and enthusiasm for life.

James is in LOVE with dogs. He wants to pet every dog he meets. James and his family are working to add a service dog to their family to promote independence and to be a constant companion to James. They are hoping for a dog trained for his specific needs in mobility, in redirecting behaviors, and as a companion at school as well as medical visits.

James was diagnosed with partial agenesis of the corpus callosum when he was only a year old. His mom and dad noticed he wasn’t meeting developmental milestones and were referred to a neurologist at a children’s hospital. The underdevelopment of the corpus callosum in James’ brain has caused major global delays in his development and abilities. After many years of physical, occupational, and speech therapies, James has come a long way! He has worked very hard to walk independently, put on his own shoes, and learn how to use an augmentative and alternative communication device (as well as sign language) to communicate. While he has come a long way, he still has a long road ahead.

A service dog would allow James to safely navigate his school and community as well as extend his capabilities leading to more independence.

How Can You Help?

It costs 4 Paws between $40,000-$60,000 to raise, train, and place a service dog. Our family has to raise $17,000 of that to pay for a service dog.
