Meet Shane Popiny! Shane is a 8 year old Stroke survivor and has cerebral palsy with foot deformity and expressive language disorder, along with other medical diagnoses.
Shane is a patient at Children’s hospital of Philadelphia and is on their stroke and cerebral palsy team. Our son receives botox injections every 4-6 months to his entire right side of his body while under anesthesia, and takes baclofen to help control his spasticity. The botox is to release spasticity to help him walk and relieve pain. Shane walks with a walker to give him balance and has a motorized wheelchair if he is having a lot of pain and or fatigue. Shane needs help with a lot of things we take for granted such as getting dressed, brushing teeth, he needs assistance with eating certain foods , balance, and there are days when he can not walk, granted that never stops this kid!
Shane LOVES sports, especially basketball the 76ers team! Shane never gives up and his smile will light the entire room. Having a service dog means no walker for Shane as he would use his new service dog for balance. How amazing that would be that Shane will become independent with help from a special friend .
The cost to train a 4 Paws assistance dog and place the dog with a disabled child is around $34,000. We are committed to raise $17,000 in support of the 4 Paws mission. The money we raise will go to 4 Paws directly, to help them to care for and train these special animals.
We are humbly asking you to please consider making a donation in honor of Shane Popiny. If you can help us by donating to 4 Paws, be sure to include Shane’s name (“In Honor of Shane Popiny”) in the “Instructions to Merchant” through PayPal so that we receive the points from your donation.
