Emma Lasater

Meet our Emma Lasater who is full of sunshine.

Emma has several genetic conditions that makes every day “normal” activities difficult. She suffers from hemiplegic migraines which mimic a stroke & one attack can last minutes to months varying in intensity from mild confusion, slurred speech all the way to coma. She has a “floppy” ankle that she has to use an air cast with if she is doing a lot of walking. She has 3 types of seizures (occipital lobe, right frontal lobe, and generalized). She also has episodic ataxia which can leave her unresponsive state for several hours. Due to these conditions, she alternates between regular walking, using a walker, or a wheelchair depending on how intense the dizziness is and how well her legs are working. Emma’s conditions will worsen as She ages so providing her with a service dog will help her day to day be easier. She is also completely deaf in her left ear.

We are working towards a multi-purpose service dog that will help Emma with stability, retrieval, and have a companion to comfort her in times of distress plus alert us prior to attacks.

It costs at least $40,000 to specially train a dog for Emma. Families cover only a portion of that cost, a fee of $17,000.  We are fundraising to help cover the fee required to provide Emma with a life-changing service dog. Donations in support of Emma should be made directly to 4 Paws for Ability – be sure to write Emma’s name on the memo line.  Mail checks to:
