We are writing this letter to introduce you to our Elliott. Elliott is a four year old who is full of joy – he always brings smiles to everyone around him. He loves baking, building, making friends, playing outside and visiting the zoo.
Elliott has epilepsy and he started having seizures when he was 5 months old. When Elliott was very young he had up to 50 seizures in 24 hours. Since that time he has been cared for by a wonderful medical team and his epilepsy is well controlled with a special Ketogenic diet and medication.
Elliott has been making lots of progress! He loves to talk and play with others. He can walk and is starting to learn to run – he is giving it his all! He is, however, unsteady when walking or running. His balance is improving but is still a big barrier for him. He needs supervision and assistance when he moves around.
Elliott has been through many hospitalizations and tests but even in the most difficult time he remains happy and perseveres!
After careful consideration and consultation from his medical team, we think that a service dog will help Elliott unlock even more of his potential. A service dog will help Elliott become more independent in his function and we also think that having a “buddy” to be by his side will help Elliott deal with challenges that may come his way.
It takes lots of expertise, time and money to train a service dog to work with Elliott. We are working with 4 Paws for Ability, Inc. from birth through training; the cost of placing a Multipurpose Service Dog in a family like ours is at least $40,000.00. We have committed to raising $17,000 to support the mission and raise awareness.
4 Paws for Ability, Inc will be training a dog for Elliott who can help with balance, comforting behavior and Seizure/Scent Training. We think having a service dog would be a special and wonderful thing for Elliott to help him as he grows. We appreciate you support in this endeavor.
