Austin Roosa

Let me introduce you to Austin! He is a very sweet and extremely intelligent 10 year old boy that has been diagnosed with Autism, severe anxiety, and sensory processing disorder. Due to these conditions, Austin needs a lot of support while navigating this overwhelming world. We are seeking a service dog to help Austin in his daily journey. Having a service dog by his side will be the perfect solution for him to be able to cope in an overstimulating environment that is his every day surroundings.

In addition to many things the dog will be trained to provide, the dog will be used during meltdowns to help comfort and ease emotional situations that occur. The dog will add greatly to Austin’s coping mechanisms and help his sensory diet by offering sensory regulation, a means of calming his body.

Our hope is that the dog will also be a calming influence while Austin sleeps, as well as helping him cope during changes in routine, changes in environment, as well as helping him cope with the many imperfect occurrences that happen in the world around him.

Social anxiety is a huge hurdle for Austin that renders communication to a complete halt. Given a service dog and a buddy in life to provide comfort in social situations will ease his anxiety, while over time, gently exposing him to opportunities to be social!

We have gone through all the necessary procedures required by 4 Paws for Ability, including medical approvals, and have been accepted into their program to receive a service dog to help Austin. The cost of training a dog to be an Autism service dog is a minimum of $40,000. Each family seeking a service dog is asked to raise $17,000. This is our financial goal. Once these funds are raised, our family will be placed into training courses along with our certified service dog to provide for Austin’s individual and specific needs.
